The USA and Canada are full of child friendly restaurants and entertainment venues – there will be plenty of places to eat out and things to do wherever you go. There are numerous theme parks in the US, which make for an easy way of keeping everyone happy – ride height requirements are often listed on websites, which lets you check which parks are going to be the most worthwhile.

New York has plenty for kids – they’ll love seeing things like the State of Liberty. The American Natural History Museum also allows sleepovers for kids between 7 and 13 – a real night in the museum.

Yellowstone National Park has loads of things that children will be fascinated by, including geysers and the colourful springs of the Artist’s Paint Pot.

Chile has family skiing and family beach holiday options, as well as Easter Island.

San Diego is a great destination for everyone, and has numerous resorts and activities.

Las Vegas may not be an obvious child-friendly choice, but the entertainment extravaganza also extends to your littlies – many hotels have kids’ clubs which let you hit the more grown-up attractions.


Family Holidays in America

New England is an excellent family holiday destinations, as there's plenty to see. Boston has some excellent museums, and the following the Freedom Trail is a great way to spend your visit. Out of the city, Cape Cod is very popular with tourists, and has picturesque villages, sandy beaches and a clutch of museums; offshore, you can visit Martha's Vinyard, which is popular with celebrities, and Nantucket, which has some lovely beaches, and for some reason often features in limericks. Salem will be of interest to everyone, as there's activities aimed at younger kids – dressing up as a pirate and a town funfair – and teenagers are likely to be interested in museums and exhibits relating to the Witch Trials and various hauntings. Salem is particularly enjoyable at Halloween.

Mexico's Mazatlan is a good place to go on a family beach holiday. Numerous resorts line the extensive beachside – most have their own golf courses and swimming pools, while some have spas and a variety of other activities. Wherever you stay, you and your kids will take a long time to tire of the activities on offer. There's plenty to see around town too – the markets, cathedral, and the world's tallest operating lighthouse.

Canada is a good holiday destination, particularly if your family like a mixture of beaches and other activities. In the summer, Vancouver has several city beaches, and in the winter is a destination for skiing and snowboarding. Whatever the weather, you'll enjoy a visit to the city's aquarium and Chinatown. For families that love the outdoors, there's plenty to do on Vancouver Island. Take a guided walk in the hope of seeing grizzly bears, visit a Native American reserve, and go kayaking. Beacon Hill Children's Farm in Victoria has a petting zoo that smaller kids will enjoy, while elsewhere in the city there's a Bug Zoo and various other attractions.

Florida is a fabulous family holiday destinations – this state is sunny year-round, so you can go anytime you like! For many, the main attractions are the theme parks – DisneyWorld and Universal Studios are the most famous, but there are several others, like Seaworld and Gatorland. If you're not into theme parks, or don't want to spend the entire holiday at them, then don't worry. Florida has some amazing beaches, the Kennedy Space Centre, the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse and also some wilderness destinations. At the national parks, you can see alligators, eagles and manatees, and numerous other animals. In the south of the Florida peninsula, you can explore the islands of the Florida Keys, or take an excursion into the Everglades swamp.
