The coastal towns of Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Coolum are great places to stop for a picnic or a swim, while the stylish resort town of Noosa, with its famed Hastings Street eateries and boutiques, is the place to go for a gourmet meal or a spot of people-watching. Noosa National Park is a great place to see a koala in the wild and experience a unique coastal eucalyptus forest.

Australia Zoo, at Beerwah, was founded by the late Steve Irwin, of Crocodile Hunter fame. The Zoo is the ultimate wildlife adventure, where you can cuddle a koala, walk with a Sumatran tiger, hand-feed Asian elephants and watch crocodiles being hand-fed. . A thirty minute drive inland will find you in the magnificent Glass House Mountain district. These distinctly-shaped mountains, named by Captain Cook in 1770, are actually long-extinct volcanoes. Local Aboriginal tribes have colourful creation stories involving the mountains and these can be discovered in the Glass House Mountains National Park, which also contains a variety of lush rainforest walking trails.

Also in the hinterland you will find the quaint country village of Eumundi, home of the Eumundi Markets, held every Saturday and Wednesday. The markets are famous for their superb quality organic produce, home-made preserves and locally-made handicrafts..
