The beautiful South-east of England covers many counties such as Kent, Sussex, and Surrey. Brighton can be found on the south coast of Sussex, and is around 50 miles south of London. Perhaps the most significant attraction in Brighton is the pier, built around 1890, and a great place to take children with its amusements and rides. The pier its self is a third of a mile long stretching out to sea and is full of fish and chip shops, shellfish bars and seaside memorabilia. Brighton Marina is a lively place day or night with great restaurants and stunning views of the boats at sea.

Brighton Holidays Guide

One of the most appealing things about this once seaside town is its nightlife, great for singles and stagdo’s. Recently Brighton has become known as a thriving gay scene with the annual gay pride festival that takes place during the summer and attracts party goers from all over. Further east from Brighton is Kent, known as being the ‘Garden of England’, easy to see why with its apple, cherry and pear orchards. The historical City of Canterbury has its magnificent cathedral, and home to the world famous Canterbury Tales. Just outside this city, in a little village called Bekesbourne lays Howletts Wild Animal Park. Part of the Aspinal Foundation, that works to protect endangered animals, set in 90 acres of beautiful parkland.

The southeast is home to many of the country’s best castles too, like the stunning Leeds Castle in Kent, historical Dover Castle sitting on the famous ‘white cliffs’, and of course the utterly breath-taking Hever Castle, also in Kent. Hastings another seaside town in Sussex is home to the remains of the first castle in England and the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066, a delightful family seaside resort. In leafy Surrey directly west of London, sits Chessington World of Adventures, one of the best theme parks in the country. When looking for somewhere to stay you can find hotels in all the main seaside areas and bed and breakfast are in every town and village. Transport is not a problem, with good rail, buses and taxis. The southeast of England has the best temperatures in the country and is a great place to visit.
