Asia Romantic Holidays Guide

The Maldives are one of the world’s top honeymoon destinations, and are a fantastic choice for a romantic break whatever the status of your relationship. You’ll enjoy quality time as a couple in some of the world most secluded resorts. One of the traditional ways to enjoy your break is in an overwater bungalow, which are often open plan. Some of these have glass panels laid into the floor so you can see the fish swimming underneath you. You can swim in the crystal waters and enjoy the beautiful beaches, although many resorts also have luxurious swimming pools. Many of the resorts have a ‘no shoes’ policy – not that you’ll need them on the soft sands.

Malaysia is a great place for a romantic break. The east of the country is relatively undeveloped and unspoiled, and also quite quiet. You can swim and snorkel in the sea together. Tioman Island is incredibly beautiful and there, as well as enjoying the beaches, you can trek through the jungle and bathe in pools at the bottom of waterfalls. Journey inland to the Cameron Highlands to see the tea plantations and cool down. You also might enjoy the colonial ambience of Fraser’s Hill. See the clock tower, and enjoy a steak dinner.

Bali is a fantastic destination for romance, and is a leading choice for weddings, honeymoons and any other romantic breaks you can think of. You’ll love the laid-back, low key atmosphere and sights. You and your other half can visit the innumerable temples and the smouldering volcano. Another definite must are the hot springs at Lovina or Toya Bungka, where you can soak in the waters. You should also try out some of the local spas, and definitely treat yourselves to a massage. Take a boat trip out to see dolphins and enjoy chilling out on the beach. In the evening, you’ll love the local food and the Bali Moon cocktails.

India is a big country and has some enormously romantic destinations. Visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal, surely one of the biggest romantic gestures in the history of the human race. Although you’ve seen photographs, there’s nothing quite like visiting in person. The Taj can also be done as a long day trip from Delhi, where you can stroll the marble halls of the Red Fort together and watch the sun set over the amazing city skyline. Another great Indian destination for romantics is Udaipur, in Rajasthan. Wander the narrow streets and take the Ropeway for an amazing view of this beautiful city. Udaipur doesn’t have a big nightlife scene, so pick a cosy hotel – which is good advice for a romantic break anyway!

Romantic Resorts in Asia

Asia has some destinations noted for their food scene, like Thailand, India, Malaysia and Japan. Wherever you go, schedule in a romantic dinner trying out the local food (some cultures in South-East Asia swear you’ll have a particularly romantic holiday if you eat some unusual pieces of various animals’ anatomy – but you may want to give this a miss!)
